Royal Mail Stamps
A set of commemorative stamps celebrating the ancient tradition of first footing, whereby the first person to cross the threshold of home on New Year's Day brings good luck for the upcoming year. Depicted on the stamps are an icon to symbolise first footing, as well as the traditional gifts of a coin, bread, salt, coal and whiskey; representing prosperity, food, flavour, warmth and good cheer respectively. Primarily celebrated in Scotland and Northern England, it is hoped these stamps would raise awareness and hopefully promote the custom throughout Great Britain. Maybe the rest of the world.
